MODELING OF DISCHARGE CHARACTERISTICS IN A MIXTURE OF MERCURY VAPOR WITH ARGON

ABSTRACT

A model has been developed for studying the emission characteristics of a mixture of Hg with Ar depending on the composition, total pressure, and the parameters of the power system when excited by a glow discharge. A simplified four-level scheme of the energy transitions of the mercury atom was used, taking into account the ground level 61S0 and the triplet levels 63P0,1,2. The Bolsig + program is used to determine the rate coefficients of reactions involving electrons. The model made it possible to determine the maximum obtainable power of radiation at a wavelength of 254 nm. For a wavelength of 254 nm, the efficiency of converting the energy nested in the discharge into radiation is ~ 37%. The efficiency of converting the energy consumed from the network into radiation is ~ 23%, while the radiation power of about 0.19 W/cm3 was obtained from 1 cm3 of the discharge medium, and the total radiation power was 12.6 W.
