ABSTRACT

This study deals with the glass-inserted heating cylinder developed for the direct visualization of the plastkation process in injection molding. As the visible area of the visual cylinder is limited to only 6 mm in window width, to understand the whole phenomenon, image processing technology was utilized to generate an extended image of the cylinder's interior made by piled up sliced images of the narrow window. This extended image allows evaluation of the phenomena occurring during the plastication process of plastic pellets, as well as quantitative analysis of the process by comparing pressure, temperature, and the extended image and calculating the solid-bed width from the image.
