ABSTRACT

The phenomena of the interaction between a sonic jet and a cylindrical body are related to the problems of the aero-acoustic noise of high-pressure gas valves. When a sonic jet impinges on a cylindrical body, it is well known that self-induced oscillation occurs under several conditions. However, it seems that the mechanism of self-induced oscillation and the factor which dominates the oscillation have not been reported on in past studies. The objects of this study are to describe the mechanism of self-induced oscillation and to explain the characteristics of the oscillation using visualization of the flow fields and numerical calculation.
