ABSTRACT

Results of the study of a set of metals (Al, Fe, Mn, Zn, Pb, Cu, and Cr) in the water of the Desna River are given in the paper. The peculiarities of the distribution of Al(III), Mn(II), Cr(III), and Cu(II) among their suspended and dissolved forms are discussed. The role of the dissolved organic matter in the process of metal migration was also studied. It has been found that humus substances are of considerable importance in binding Al(III), Fe(III), Cu(II), and Mn(II). The contribution of the dissolved forms of the above mentioned metals to the composition of their anionic complexes accounted for 51.3−71.5%. Neutral complexes of metals with carbohydrates (12.7−40.8%) represent the second main group of metal complexes. At the same time, the contribution of Cr(III) to the composition of anionic (40.4%) and neutral (40.8%) complexes was almost the same. The highest amount of metals was found in the fractions of humus substances with the molecular mass ≤2.0 kDa. The capability of various fractions of humus substances to bind Al(III), Fe(III), and Cu(II) was assessed.
