ABSTRACT

Parameters of the antioxidant (AO) system and lipid peroxidation (LPO) in tissues of the Black Sea bivalve mollusks with different ecological and physiological characteristics (mussel, Anadara and oyster) have been studied. Activity of glutathione peroxidase, glutathione reductase, catalase, superoxide dismutase, content of reduced glutathione and TBA-reactive products have been determined. AO parameters and LPO rate in the mussel's tissues in most cases were maximal. Hepatopancreas has been found to be of essential importance in antioxidant defense of mussel, gills and podium − of Anadara. Activity of superoxide dismutase and catalase in gills and glutathione peroxidase in muscles of hemoglobin-containing Anadara was twice as much than those of mussel and oyster. Content of glutathione in podium of Anadara was four times higher than those of mussel. In most oyster tissues values of studied parameters have been found to be lower than in other species, except of glutathione reductase.
