ABSTRACT
The paper generalizes literature data on different aspects of phosphorus compounds effects on vascular (higher) aquatic plants and algae. The sources and forms of phosphorus in aquatic systems have been considered. Data on accumulation and transformation of phosphorus by aquatic plants, its role in eutrophication and influence of nitrogen and phosphorus ratio on aquatic plants have been analyzed. Perspectives of use of the aquatic plants for removal of phosphorus excess from water bodies have been discussed.
