Influence of Water pH on the Macrozoobenthos Structure in Small Forest Lakes of Southwestern Karelia

ABSTRACT

In six forest lakes of Karelia, the water pH values prove to be the determining environmental factor for the macrozoobenthos species diversity. At lake water acidification the share of caddis-flies and Chironomidae larvae in the total bio mass is increased. The share of Chironomus sp. and Comptochironomus sp. among the chironomidae larvae is enlarged in the littoral populations of acidified lakes.
