Diatoms (Bacillariophyta) of the Svisloch River (Belarus). Report 1. Centrophyceae
ABSTRACT
Results of long-term investigations (2006−2008) of phytoplankton of the main watercourse of Minsk – the Svisloch River are given in the paper. The role of Bacillariophyta, including the class Centrophyceae and its individual representatives, in plankton algae cenoses was revealed. A total of 25 species and infraspecific taxa of Centrophyceae of the genera Aulacoseira (5), Cyclostephanos (1), Nyclotella (5), Discostella (1), Melosira (1), Puncticulata (1), Stephanodiscus (6), and Thalassiosira (5) was registered in phytoplankton of the river. Among them 20 species and infraspecific taxa proved to be new to the algae flora of the river. In this case, 5 species are new to Belarus ((Aulacoseira sp., Cyclotella atomus var. gracilis, Thalasiossira faurii, T. sp. 1, and T. sp. 2).
