ABSTRACT
Studies of chironomids (Diptera, Chironomidae) of four salmon rivers flowing through the Timan Ridge (Komi Republic, Russia) were conducted in 1992-1997. Representatives of the subfamily Orthocladiinae dominated in the species composition. Based on the analysis of distribution of Chironomidae in watercourses, three major complexes were segregated; these complexes differed in their faunistic composition, numbers, and larval biomass. Litho- and lithophytorheophilic chironomid complexes are the dominant ones in salmon rivers of the Timan Ridge.
