ABSTRACT

A new method for deriving the eddy diffusivities for inhomogeneous turbulence in the convective boundary layer (CBL) is described. The formulation relies on Taylor classic diffusion theory and observed turbulent spectral properties and as a consequence represents a hybrid method to obtain these eddy diffusivities. The vertical eddy diffusivities depending on the source distance are described in terms of the frequency of spectral peak and dissipation function. As a consequence, they are directly related to the energy-containing eddies originated by convective production. The new parameterization is well suited for application in air pollution modeling under unstable conditions.
