ABSTRACT

This paper presents the effect of the direct current arc plasma discharge in a hypersonic flow over a flat plate. A Mach-7 flow over a flat plate, with a plasma discharge in its boundary layer, has been studied for the purpose of applying it to a futuristic flow control device. A pressure measurement and Schlieren visualization study was performed to evaluate the effect of the discharge on the flow. It was found that the pressure around the plasma changes due to the boundary layer separation and the subsequent shock wave.
