Characteristics of meter wavelength radio signals are considered in the vicinity of the diffraction horizon. The large volume of measured data shows the behavior of the signals to be conditioned by the joint action of diffraction and refraction mechanisms.

Using a technique of partial reflections the changes it electron density, N, in the ionospheric D-region after remote strong earthquakes were experimentally investigated. An electron dencity increase of more than 50-100% was observed during 10-20 min at interval of few minutes after an earthquake moment. In order to explain the experimental results, it was applied a hypothesis of electrons precipitating from radiation belts, which was initiated by a MHD-wave generated under certain conditions in the ionosphere during an earthquake.

The problem had been solved in the time domain of propagation of natural electromagnetic pulse in the Earth-ionosphere cavity. An algorithm is described of accelerating the convergence of the series that present the formal solution for the pulsed waveform. Compact formulae are given for the signals and the computational results are shown for a set of the source-observed distances.

Approximate expressions are derived allowing calculation of the near-field vector potential from the vertical and horizontal Hertz dipoles located above a plane air-ground interface. The ground is assumed to possess a finite conductivity and a relative dielectric permittivity greater than one. The simplifying assumptions made with regard to integrands of the Sommerfeld integrals have allowed reducing these latter to tabulated functions. The numerical results obtained with the use of the suggested expressions are compared with known literature data.

Professional and household UV dosimeters have been developed, designed for A and B range of solar radiation. Shottky photodiode based on n-ZnSe(Te,O)-Ni structure is used as sensor. The multi-filter professional variant allows to measure intensity and integral dose accounting for and cosine factor as well reconstruct UV radiation spectrum in the 280-400 nm using specially developed software.
