RÉSUMÉ

A one dimensional model is formulated for the simulation of ignition chain in a pyrotechnic igniter. The pyrotechnic igniter is a device containing pyrotechnic charge used to ignite a solid motor. The pyrotechnic igniter consists of a bridgewire, booster charge and an igniter main charge. The complete initiation, ignition and combustion process of the pyrotechnic igniter is modeled, simulated and analyzed in one dimension. For this, first the heating and initiation of the bridgewire with the booster charge is modeled and then the ignition and combustion of the igniter main charge is modeled. Finally an integrated model is developed for the complete prediction of the ignition characteristics of the pyrotechnic igniter. The bridgewire-booster charge is modeled using heat conduction equation. The igniter main charge combustion is modeled using Eulerian-Eulerian Two Fluid Model. Method of lines is used to solve the problem in CFD. Finite volume method is used for spatial integration and flux evaluation is done by central scheme. Explicit scheme is used for time integration. Four stage classical Runge-Kutta method is used for time accurate results. The integrated model characterizes the entire ignition chain in a pyrotechnic igniter.
