RÉSUMÉ

Stereoscopic Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) has been used to measure all components of the velocity vector and the Reynolds stress tensor in several planes for a jet in crossflow. The Reynolds number based on the free stream velocity and the jet diameter was 2400. Jet-to-crossflow velocity ratios of 1.3 and 3.3 were investigated. The general structure of the flow and turbulence is discussed. Data obtained in two closely spaced parallel planes were used to calculated the rate-of-deformation tensor. This is used to demonstrate the extent of failure of the Boussinesq approximation for complex flow.
