This paper explores numerical and experimental investigation of an axial compressor. Two Dimensional (2-D) compressor models are prepared in commercial finite element software for numerical calculations. On the other hand, two engine performance tests have been performed and transient thermocouple measurements from compressor casing aligned with 4th and 8th stator blades have been recorded during these tests. Thermal analyses have been performed at the various rotational speed values, such as 60%, 90% and 100% rpm, in parallel to the tests. It is beneficial to compare results of analyses with the experimental ones in order to identify accuracy and robustness of thermal model at various loading conditions. At the preliminary design step, 2-D thermal analysis has been performed and it is necessary to determine how successful is the thermal model in terms of capturing metal temperatures. Thus, weakness and strengths of the thermal model are revealed in scope of this study. The comparison between experimental and numerical results pointed fair agreement out in range of 8.08% - 10.79% of metal temperature difference. Because of the unconvincing difference on metal temperature, thermal model needs to be developed. For the future work, in addition to the improvement of thermal model, validation must be done by carrying out 3-D detailed thermal analyses for whole compressor geometry.
