Simulating the aerodynamics of the 919 Hybrid LMP1 racing car
RÉSUMÉ
Aspects of computational fluid dynamics simulations for the aerodynamic development of the Porsche 919 Hybrid are presented. A very brief outline is given of the geometrical configuration and computational model set-up. Selected results of the aerodynamic map are presented and compared with global full scale wind tunnel data. Particle Image Velocimetry data for two underfloor sections are compared with the calculation results. The paper aims at giving some insight on how CFD simulations aided the aerodynamic development and thereby reduced the need of expensive model scale and full scale wind tunnel tests. It is shown that the agreement between the predictions and the data is satisfactory.
