Application of the exact regularized point particle method to turbulent pipe flow in the two-way coupling regime
RÉSUMÉ
Many technological applications are characterized by wall turbulent bounded flows laden with a disperse phase typically particles or droplets. For high mass loading (particle/fluid mass ratio) a significant inter-phase momentum exchange occurs (two-way coupling regime), inducing a significant alteration of the turbulent field which, in turn, modifies the dynamics of the suspended phase. In the present study we investigate the turbulence modulation by using a recently developed momentum coupling method, dubbed the Exact Regularized Point Particle (ERPP) method. To this purpose Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS) of particle laden turbulent pipe flow are performed under different coupling conditions controlled by the mass loading and the Stokes number. In the extended contribution the results are compared against the available numerical and experimental data.
