Detailed cloud microphysics simulation for investigation into the impact of sea spray on air-sea heat flux
RÉSUMÉ
This study has developed a numerical weather simulation model incorporated with a detailed spectral-bin cloud microphysics model, which can handle sea spray with explicitly considering the droplet motion and droplet-atmosphere interactions. The sea spray, which is comprised of liquid droplets ejected from sea surface into the evaporation layer, enhances heat as well as momentum exchanges between air and sea. This study has performed idealized 3D simulations to confirm that the present model can reproduce the enhancement of the heat exchange by the spray and to confirm the potential of the present model for investigation of the impact of sea spray on extreme weather events such as tropical cyclones.
