Investigation on spatially developing natural convection boundary layer along a vertical heated plate by a LES
RÉSUMÉ
We conducted a large eddy simulation (LES) on spatially developing natural convection boundary layer along a vertical heated plate. Although the height of the turbulent transition was slightly affected by the grid resolution of the stream-wise direction, heat transfer rate, mean profiles of velocity and temperature, and 2nd order turbulent properties such as 〈u'w'〉, 〈u'θ'〉 and 〈w'θ'〉 showed good agreements with the past experiments. The time history of 2nd invariant of gradient tensor Q revealed the vortex strength oscillates both in the inner and outer layers in between the laminar and transition region. In the turbulent region, on the other hand, vortex was often dominant in the outer layer.
