Résumé

The thermal diffusivity of some transparent liquids (pure liquids, e.g., the refrigerant R113, and binary mixtures) has been measured by Rayleigh photon correlation spectroscopy (PCS). This technique is based on Rayleigh scattering from local statistical fluctuations of the fluid density governed by temperature fluctuations in pure liquids and by temperature and concentration fluctuations in liquid mixtures. Working in thermodynamic equilibrium and providing a criterion for the recognition of systematical distortions in the measurement, PCS offers some distinct advantages over the conventional measurement techniques. Additionally, the PCS probe may be used simultaneously for the measurement of the mutual diffusion coefficient in binary mixtures which is necessary in some cases also for the determination of the thermal diffusivity.
