RÉSUMÉ

A primary pillar of health-care instruction and practice is to "do no harm". In different fields of health care, this can manifest itself in a variety of forms. In recent times, the field of dentistry has evolved to providing the ability for patients to address their orthodontic needs in the comfort of their own home. Although this may be a more financially affordable alternative to receiving care from a licensed orthodontist in an office, the lack of routine visits to a specialist combined with patient deficiency in technical knowledge and training can lead to disastrous outcomes, including violations of the oath for health-care providers to "do no harm".
