OPTICAL METHODS FOR THE DETERMINATION OF PROJECTING RELATIVE RADICAL CONCENTRATION AND SOOT TEMPERATURE

RÉSUMÉ

In the framework of research on a (transparent) laboratory type of ramjet combustor, a setup has been built to carry out measurements of relative radially projected concentrations of electronically excited C2 and CH. In this setup, a method has been applied wherein, for all locations along the combustor, this concentration is determined simultaneously from one exposure. The results for both types of molecules showed a maximum concentration close to the point of reattachment. To measure the temperature inside the combustor, a setup was developed in which two-color pyrometry was applied. The accuracy was estimated to be 20 K, while the error in simultaneously performed measurements of the emissivity of the flame was 2% at maximum. Results showed a strong dependence of the histories of temperature and emissivity on the experimental conditions at a constant mass flow rate of air.
