Spectra of Rain-Produced Disturbances on a Water Surface and X- and Ka-Band Radio Backscatter: Experimental Results

RÉSUMÉ

Results are presented of measuring the spectra of water surface disturbances produced by single water-drops, artificial rain or small air-bubbles that come to the surface and burst. Special attention is given to those components of the surface disturbances that can influence essentially the backscattering of centimeter and millimeter radio waves incident at small grazing angles. The intensities of radar returns calculated for the obtained spatial spectra are compared with the results of scatterometer observations in the X- and Ka-bands.
