Surface Plasmon Instability Produced by a Charge-Particle Beam Passing through a Medium with a Non-Uniform Potential Distribution

RÉSUMÉ

The interaction of charge-particle beams passing through an interface with surface plasmons is analyzed theoretically with allowance for non-uniformity of the potential distribution. A kinetic equation for the surface plasmons is derived, and the conditions for their instabilities are formulated. The growth rate has been analyzed as a function of the potential barrier height.
