POLARIZERS ON THE BASIS OF SECTIONS OF A SQUARE WAVEGUIDE WITH DIAGONALLY ARRANGED SQUARE RIDGES: AN ELECTRODYNAMIC MODEL AND CHARACTERISTICS
RÉSUMÉ
The mode-matching technique and the generalized scattering matrix method are used to construct a full-wave model of a waveguide polarizer capable of converting the fundamental mode of the input rectangular waveguide into an elliptically-polarized mode of the output square waveguide. The phase-shifting section is implemented on one or two segments of the square waveguide with two diagonally arranged square ridges. An optimization procedure is applied to narrow- and broadband polarizers. It is shown that the polarizers with a single-section phase shifter can provide the operation frequency range between 12 and 17 % as determined at the ellipticity level r < 3 dB and VSWR < 1.2, while the operation frequency range of those with a two-section phase shifter can exceed 20 % with r < 1 dB and VSWR < 1.15.
