In developing the technology of manufacturing fiber optic components (optical fibers, commutating devices, radiation sources), it is necessary to have reliable information about their optical and geometrical parameters, characteristics of radiation in critical cross-sections of the fibers, and characteristics of commutating or radiating devices. These parameters are the geometrical size of objects, distribution of material refraction coefficients, laser radiation properties, the presence of contamination on connected optical surfaces, etc. The fulfillment of the requirements on these parameters by automated monitoring guarantees minimum losses in constructing optical fiber communication systems.
The proposed method is based on the measurement of the distribution of radiation intensity in the near-field zone of the monitored object. We have designed a device in which the radiation of the monitored object was scanned by a multielement charge-coupled photoreceiver.
