ANALYSIS OF PERIODIC RAYLEIGH BÉNARD CONVECTION WITH MODERATE ROTATION RATES AT LOW RAYLEIGH NUMBERS
SINOPSIS
A Three-dimensional numerical study on rotating Rayleigh- Bénard convection of water in a cylindrical container with a specific aspect ratio is carried out in the present work. Emphasis is given on the analysis of periodic flows that appear at moderate rotation rates. The changes in heat transfer and flow structures as a result of addition of rotation to the system are also studied. For deeper analysis of the flow regimes and periodicity numerous probes are placed at different points within the flow domain. The flow initially remained steady at low rotation rates and transformed to a periodic stage at moderate rotation rates. with further increase in rotation a drastic drop in heat transfer rate is observed, before finally approaching towards a static conduction stage.
