SINOPSIS

Supercritical fluids are being considered for advanced power generation technologies due to their potential to offer higher thermal efficiency. Though, many of the Supercritical Water Cooled Reactors (SCWRs) designs are based on forced circulation system of primary coolant, the supercritical water natural circulation systems are also capable of generating buoyancy effects comparable to those of two-phase natural circulation systems. Therefore, application of natural circulation systems is also a viable option for upcoming SCWR systems. Natural circulation systems have numerous advantages over forced circulation systems, however, pose design challenges as these systems are susceptible to flow instabilities which is highly undesirable phenomena. In the present study, experimental investigations have been conducted in a Supercritical Pressure Natural Circulation Loop (SPNCL) for assessing the heat transfer characteristics of carbon dioxide (CO2) as working fluid.
