Towards the application of Reynolds stress transport models to 3D turbomachinery flows
SINOPSIS
This study focuses on a detailed comparison of the SSG/LRR-ω Reynolds stress transport model (RSTM) of Eisfeld with both explicit algebraic and linear eddy viscosity approaches in view of their application to industrial design of turbomachinery components. For the first time, this model was applied to an industrially relevant turbomachinery configuration. Results obtained for a low speed compressor cascade clearly showed the superiority of the RSTM in capturing complex three-dimensional anisotropic details of the flow field. Finally, our implementation of the RSTM proved to be robust and efficient and hence appropriate for the simulation of such flows.
