Sinopsis

The aim of this work is to investigate the influence of modeling of fuel physical properties on the particle motion in combustion chamber. In the first stage of combustion process, in the absence of oxygen, high temperature of gases considerably affects the particles' volume and geometry. Particle swelling and shrinking, and the additional mass source in the form of releasing volatiles may cause a significant change of particles trajectories. Numerical modeling of pyrolysis process is carried out by means of a commercial code with implemented in-house models accounting for mass and density changes (derived from experimental data). A simplified geometry of pulverized coal burner is studied. Simulations are performed for turbulent regime. Additionally, two methods of turbulence modeling are used. The results of these simulations are presented and compared.
