SINOPSIS

A modified scale adaptive simulation approach for complex wall bounded shear flows is presented. Similar to the classical SAS turbulence model proposed by Menter et al. [4] the current approach appears advantageous where classical LES or Hybrid LES-RANS approaches are too expensive or have limitations. The model can be considered as an extension of the classical URANS based on Rotta's original transport equation for turbulence integral length scale along with an appropriate consideration of norm and symmetry properties. A zonal approach is presented and assessed in this paper. It turns out that the present approach. is capable to provide accurate prediction for both plain channel flow and combustion chamber studied by Sommerfeld et al. [1].
