Promotion and control of turbulent thermal mixing in T-junction with delta wings
SINOPSIS
An Experimental study was made on the promotion and control of turbulent mixing of hot and cold airflows in a T-junction with rectangular cross sections, which simulated an HVAC unit for an automobile air-conditioning system. Delta wings were used as devices to promote and control the turbulent thermal mixing. The mean temperature and velocity distributions in several cross sections were measured by thermocouples and PIV, respectively. It was found that the development of the thermal mixing layer is promoted by the delta wings and the degree of thermal mixing can be controlled by changing their angle of attack. The longitudinal vortices produced by the wings breaks after the merging of two flows, but their influence on the thermal mixing layer is maintained to further downstream cross sections.
