SINOPSIS

When sufficiently low density fluid, such as helium gas, is issued from a round nozzle, radial ejections, which called side jets, are generated at the near field. From visualized cross section of the jet column by PLMS, the jet column becomes asymmetric when the side jets are formed. Fluctuations between the center and the boundary in helium gas jet synchronize perfectly from the measured coherence function, and the fluctuations at the jet boundary include many harmonic components. The generation of the harmonic components is related to the side-jet formation. Each of the phase angles for the fundamental frequency between the jet center and the jet boundaries change with time slowly and the variation of phase angles is not small.
