Effect of Turbulence Models on the Flow Field of Cross-Flow Fan

The effect of various turbulence models on the flow field of cross-flow fan was numerically investigated with 2-D and 3-D CFD simulations. The results showed that large scale flow structures were dominant in the 2-D URANS simulations with k−ε turbulence model. More transition flows characteristics were predicted by k−ω SST and Spalart-Allmaras models of the 2-D URANS. On the other hand, the results of 3-D DES and LES showed the realistic turbulent flow characteristic with various scales of flow structure.
