SINOPSIS
This paper reflects on the importance, and complexity, of the interaction between mixing and reaction for the calculation of turbulent reacting flows. Two leading approaches for a detailed treatment of such interaction, viz the transported-PDF method and the Linear Eddy Model are discussed, and analogies are drawn with the pioneering work of Brian Spalding on the subject.
