Sinopsis

The comprehensive picture of cavitation phenomenon in a small venturi is obtained through a comparison of the results of numerical simulations and experimental measurements. The experimental data give information about the intensity of cavitation cloud at specified cross-sections behind the right edge of cavitation inducer. The evaluation of vapour volume fraction in the liquid is performed using an optoelectronic system. The experimental conditions create basis for boundary conditions in numerical simulations. A homogeneous method is applied in the numerical approach. As the additional transport equations are considered mass transfer rates proposed by Schnerr and Sauer, Singhal et al. and Zwart et al. The results of numerical simulations are compared with the data obtained in the experiment. Good coherence of the results is achieved for the first and the second cross-sections of the analysed cavitation chamber.
