SINOPSIS

Air curtains are especially used in stores and retailer supermarkets as barrier systems to separate and outer spaces from each other. For both air quality and energy saving, it is crucial that the air transfer these two spaces are at minimum. A numerical study of a commercial display cabinet has been carried out. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of environment air velocities on cooling effectiveness for different inlet and outlet configurations. A parametric study was performed for one, two and three jet systems at different outside velocities. It was observed, that at almost all outside velocities, except U0=0.7 m/s, the three inlet jet configuration is the best system in the cooling of goods, and ensures the food codex. The one and two jet configurations are only reliable for the outside velocity of 0.1 m/s.
