SINOPSIS

Numerical simulation is performed to investigate the effects of evaporating fuel droplets on the scalar dissipation rates and micro-mixing in a spatially developing supersonic shear layer laden with Lagrangian droplets initiated in the stream inlet. The evaporation effects on micro-mixing are studied using the time-averaged scalar dissipation rate, which consists of three components in the present problem. The detailed instantaneous field analysis and time-averaged statistics reveal complex interactions among micro-mixing, droplet dynamics and evaporation, which have a considerable influence on the scalar dissipation rates. The presence of fuel vapor promotes the scalar dissipation rate and fluctuations. The droplet size has an influence on the scalar dissipation rate concentration due to the preferential dispersion of droplets.
