Sinopsis

In this study, steady natural convection in a two-dimensional square enclosure isothermally heated from one side and isothermally cooled from above is studied numerically. The influence of Prandtl number on flow field and energy transport is investigated. The values of Prandtl number between 0.01 and 100 are considered. The computations are carried out for Rayleigh numbers ranging from 102 to 109. Based on the numerically calculated temperature distributions, average Nusselt number for heated vertical wall is determined and the results are compared with those of vertically heated and cooled enclosures. It was obtained that in the low Prandtl and low Rayleigh region, vertically imposed temperature gradient due to cooled ceiling improves the heat transfer considerably.
