Sinopsis

A knowledge based system, named CAESAR (Computer Aided Engineering Support And Review), has been developed. CAESAR relies on object oriented expression of schematic diagrams, referred to as schematic models, as its knowledge source. The system provides various functions to inspect and to carry out topological searches on such models. Major CAESAR objectives are to provide support for plant engineers, to decrease their work load and increase efficiencies in handling diverse and massive amounts of information. To overcome the knowledge acquisition problem in creating practical scale models, functions to generate models from conventional CAD data files were also developed. Basic CAESAR features, with emphasis on model generation functions, are described.
