SINOPSIS

Many studies have been carried out to achieve an absorption heat transformer of high performance and compactness(l), and are necessary to understand the heat and mass transfer characteristics of the heat exchangers, especially the absorber. The heat exchangers, which consist of heat and mass transfer tubes, are classified into vertical and horizontal types. The vertical one has advantages of higher temperature efficiency of the heat exchanger and smaller floor space. Therefore, the vertical one is getting increased in the recent absorption heat transformers.
A few of studies (2)(3)(4) were performed on the absorption of refrigerant vapor into liquid film for the vertical type. Grossman(2) has solved numerically the turbulent energy and diffusion equations to give the temperature and the concentration variations on the basis of eddy diffusivity correlation for an inclined plane. Matsuda et al. (3) also solved equations similar to the above-mentioned one for a bare tube.
For enhanced heat transfer tubes, there is no analytical work in solving the fundamental equations which take account of the flow on the tubes. Only the heat transfer characteristics for a corrugated tube were measured by Furukawa(4), but mass transfer characteristics were not treated.
This paper describes the heat and mass transfer characteristics in falling films for three kinds of tubes, which are conventional bare, corrugated and our newly developed (fir-finned) tubes.
Falling film flows were observed through a transparent wall. As the results, remarkable pulsation flow occurred on the surface of the fir-finned tube. And also the hydrodynamic characteristics of the falling film flow were measured.
The heat and mass transfer characteristics were measured for the three tubes. Based on the experimental results, a heat and mass transfer model was proposed for the heat exchanger design and the performance analyses. And mass transfer coefficients for the tubes were calculated by the model and compared.
