T1 Use of Space Information for the Control of Water Bodies in the Chernobyl Zone JF Hydrobiological Journal JO HYD YR 2001 FD 2001-04-01 VO 37 IS 2 OP 9 AB The results of decoding of space photographs received in optical and radio wave ranges of spectrum from the SPOT, Landsat and ERS satellites were considered. Concrete examples of performing the monitoring of water bodies in the 30-km zone of the Chernobyl accident are given. The possibility of controlling the state and predicting the extent of the flood along the territory during the spring high water and freshet, presence of water filtration processes from cooling basin (by peculiarities of water temperature) has been proved. The relation between distribution of radionuclides in bottom sediments and water of separate sections of the Kiev reservoir with tectonic faults and neotectonic characteristics of the catchment area and the bed of the Kiev reservoir is discussed.
