Potential and limitations of the modern non-intrusive techniques for two-phase dispersed flows diagnostics are discussed with a specific view on issues related to cavitation phenomena. The literature survey is complemented with some recent papers on the application of various optical methods, the data processing procedures and error assessment carried out over the last few years in the cavitation research facilities at the Kutateladze Institute of Thermophysics SB RAS and Novosibirsk State University.
