SINOPSIS

The results of the study of species composition, abundance, and biomass of planktic Cyanoprokaryota of the northwestern part of the Black Sea are presented. A total of 63 species of cyanophytes were recorded. Aphanocapsa salina Woron., Aphanothece salina Elenkin et A.N. Danilov, Dolichospermum affine (Lemmerm.) Wacklin, L. Hoffm. et Komarek, Anabaenopsis elenkinii V.V. Mill., A. seriata Prescott, Pseudanabaena limnetica (Lemmerm.) Kom., Oscillatoria limosa Agardh ex Gomont, Microcystis wesenbergi (Komarek) Komarek, and Planktothrix sp. are first cited for the Black Sea. In recent years, mass development of Cyanoprokaryota causeb water blooms in the summer and early autumn to worsen water quality. Dominant species are D. affine, Aphanizomenon flos-aquae Ralfs ex Bornet et Flahault, Nodularia spumigena Mert. ex Bornet et Flahault, Oscillatoria kisselevii Anissimova, Spirulina laxissima G.S. West, and Microcystis aeruginosa (Kutz.) Kutz. The dynamics of number and biomass, the percentage of Cyanoprokaryota in the structure of phytoplankton and possible causes of water bloom are discussed.
