SINOPSIS

The article gives a historical overview of the development of phycological research at the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences over a century and provides brief biographical notes about the most famous representatives of the Ukrainian phycologists. The personal way of professional development, as well as the most important achievements and priority results of the national scientific schools and their leaders in the study of floristics, taxonomy, hydrobiology, ecology and physiology of algae are shown. Together with chronological and historical information, the field of scientific interests or scientific activity of 12 phycologists of the Academy of Sciences (in particular, one academician and 4 corresponding members of the NAS) is present. In addition, the attention was paid to the founders of certain scientific research centers in Ukraine, creation and further development of schools and scientific ideas of its founders, training of new personnel of phycologists.
