Force-Couple Induced Motion of a Floating Contour

A two-dimensional nonlinear, unsteady hydrodynamic problem of force-couple induced motion of a contour is analyzed. The motion of the liquid is investigated in terms of Lagrange variables. The solution for the initial period of motion is sought in the form of time series. The search for coefficients of the series describing the motion of the liquid and the hydrofoil yields respectively boundary-value problems and sets of linear equations. The initial location of the axis of rotation and the induced moment of inertia of the liquid are determined for the particular case of a circular cylinder.
