CATALYTIC CRACKING OF PALM OIL: KINETIC STUDY
SINOPSIS
The kinetics of the catalytic cracking of palm oil over steam-treated HZSM-5 zeolite is investigated using a fixed bed microreactor, operated at a temperature of 673−723 K, a weight hourly space velocity of 1−4 h−1, and a catalyst-to-oil ratio of 0.1−0.22. Lumped parameter models based on three, four, and six lumps were used sequentially to obtain the kinetic parameters. The cracking reaction was found to be first order, and the rate constants showed that gasoline and kerosene fractions did not undergo secondary cracking reactions compared with the diesel fraction. The predicted concentrations of products were found to be in agreement with the experimental values within the experimental error.
