GAUSSIAN APPROXIMATION OF WEAKLY NONLINEAR WAVE PACKET DYNAMICS IN A BOUNDARY LAYER

SINOPSIS
This research deals with the wave packet dynamics in the boundary layer flow of viscous incompressible fluid near the flat plate when a weakly nonlinear interaction takes place at the zero pressure gradient. Three-wave, harmonic, and parametric resonances; dispersion; and other effects are taken into account. It is shown that the waves with wave vectors near the coordinate origin in the wave number space have a noticeable influence on wave packet behavior. Partial derivative equations of wave packet dynamics are reduced to the system of ordinary differential equations where the components of a complex disturbance have the Gaussian form in the wave vector space.
