Hyperbolic Problem of Heat Transfer in Rapid Solidification of Supercooled Liquids

SINOPSIS

A model of rapid solidification in supercooled pure metallic liquid is developed; the model includes local nonequilibrium heat transfer and the kinetics of liquid–solid interface motion. Taking into account the finiteness of speed V of heat transport, we obtained a general solution of the problem of local nonequilibrium heat transfer with the moving heat source at the plane solidification front. We analyzed the solution both in steady- and unsteady-state regimes of solidification. On the basis of joint solution of heat and kinetic equations we found the self-consistent regimes of rapid solidification front motion.
