SINOPSIS

Dynamics of the content of photosynthetic pigments, including chlorophyll a and carotenoids, in the unit volume of phytoplankton biomass in the surface layer of water of the littoral zone of Obolon Bay of the Kanev Reservoir were studied in summer 2014−2015. The main water bloom forming species of Cyanoprokaryota represented by Anabaena flos-aquae Bréb., Microcystis aeruginosa (Kütz.) Kütz., and Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (L.) Ralfs dominated in phytoplankton in terms of their biomass. The specific content of chlorophyll a in phytoplankton biomass (Chl. a/B) depended inversely on water temperature. The increase in the temperature of water from 21 to 31°C resulted in the decrease in Chl. a/B ratio by a factor of two. At extremely high temperatures of water, the total content of carotenoids in the unit volume of phytoplankton biomass also decreased. Relationship between chlorophyll a content and water temperature is described by linear function, whereas relationship between the total content of carotenoids and water temperature – by polynomial function.
